White House adviser Kevin Hassett said President Donald Trump may keep him in his current role instead of nominating him as the next Federal Reserve chair.
Trump recently told Hassett he preferred him to stay in the White House. The Fed chair race now includes Christopher Waller, Kevin Warsh, and Rick Rieder, with Rieder gaining momentum due to easier Senate confirmation prospects.
Powell’s term ends May 15. The search is being led by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who has ruled himself out.
