RIEDER EMERGES AS FED CHAIR CONTENDER
BlackRock’s Rick Rieder is gaining momentum as a candidate for Federal Reserve chair, sources say, as President Trump weighs a nominee who may face less Senate resistance.
The four-way race includes Rieder, White House adviser Kevin Hassett, Fed Governor Christopher Waller, and former governor Kevin Warsh. Hassett was an early frontrunner, but Trump may keep him in the White House.
Rieder, BlackRock’s chief fixed-income officer, is seen as easier to confirm. He has emphasized Fed independence while supporting more innovative uses of the central bank’s balance sheet. Trump has not yet announced his final choice.
