LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Nebraska’s primary election Tuesday narrowed the field of candidates heading into the general election on Nov. 3. Governor Incumbent Gov. Jim Pillen won the Republican nomination for governor, while former state Sen. Lynne Walz won the Democratic nomination. “Nebraska deserves a governor who understands the challenges families are facing every day — rising costs, high property taxes, workforce shortages, and the need to keep young people in our state,” Walz said. “This campaign is about building a stronger future for every corner of Nebraska.” U.S. Senate Incumbent U.S. Sen. Pete Ricketts won the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate. Cindy Burbank won the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate. “Tonight’s victory is a clear message: Nebraskans want leaders who deliver. I’ve fought to keep our communities safe, put more money in your pockets, and stand firm against Communist China,” Ricketts said. “The job isn’t done. I’ve delivered for Nebraska, and I’ll keep fighting to deliver safe communities, bigger paychecks, and a stronger America.” U.S. House Chris Backemeyer won the Democratic nomination for U.S. House in Nebraska’s 1st Congressional District. Backemeyer will face incumbent U.S. Rep. Mike Flood, who ran unopposed in the Republican primary. “While Washington is gridlocked, I am getting things done: passing bipartisan legislation to lower housing costs, supporting the largest tax cut in American history, and delivering more than $100 million in federal funding back to Nebraska,” Flood said. “I’m honored to be the Republican nominee for Nebraska’s First Congressional District, and I look forward to once again earning the trust of Nebraskans this November.” Adrian Smith won the Republican nomination for U.S. House in Nebraska’s 3rd Congressional District. Secretary of State Scott Petersen defeated incumbent Bob Evnen in GOP Primary for Secretary of State. Peterson will face Democrat Sarah Slattery in the November General Election.
