Schumer, Gillibrand react to Mike Collins victory in Georgia GOP Senate runoff
Democratic leadership in the Senate reacted to the results in the Georgia Senate Republican runoff by claiming that the process “exposed” the winner, Rep. Mike Collins.
“The chaotic and bruising Republican primary exposed Mike Collins’ record: stripping Georgians of their health care to give tax breaks to billionaires, capitulating to Trump while Georgia families pay the price, and facing a bipartisan Congressional ethics investigation for misusing taxpayer dollars,” Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer and Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee Chair Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand said in a joint statement after Collins defeated former college football coach Derek Dooley.
“In November, Georgians will reject Collins’ scandals and harmful agenda and send Senator Ossoff back to the Senate,” the statement added.
Collins is set to take on incumbent Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff this fall in a race that could determine the balance of power in the U.S. Senate.
“Senator Ossoff is a bipartisan leader with a track record of serving Georgians, standing up for children, and lowering costs,” Schumer and Gillibrand said. “While Republicans spent a year attacking each other, Senator Ossoff has been fighting back against the chaos and corruption of the Trump administration and its attacks on health care, affordability, and voting rights. Now, momentum and grassroots enthusiasm are on Senator Ossoff’s side heading into the general election.”

Powerful House GOP chairman fends off primary challenge
Incumbent GOP Rep. Tom Cole advanced Tuesday in Oklahoma’s 4th Congressional District against anti-establishment candidate Marcie Everhart.
Tom Cole has represented Oklahoma’s 4th Congressional District since 2003 and is currently serving his twelfth term in Congress.
He chairs the House Appropriations Committee—one of the most powerful committees in the House of Representatives—which is responsible for drafting federal spending legislation and shaping the federal budget.
Cole campaigned on bringing federal projects to his heavy military service member district with Fort Sill and Tinker Air Force Base located in the area.
Businesswoman Marcie Everhart ran on congressional reform and as an outsider trying to fix Washington.
The district has long been a Republican stronghold, with President Donald Trump carrying it in the 2016, 2020, and 2024 presidential elections.

Actor-turned-plumber wins key primary seeking to flip red seat
Andrew Sneed won the Democratic primary in Alabama’s 5th Congressional District, setting up a faceoff with favored Republican incumbent Rep. Dale Strong.
Meanwhile, Sneed told AL.com he started his career after graduating from Boston University and working as an actor in New York City. He said he later returned to his Southern roots and trained to become a master plumber in the district, which includes Huntsville, Decatur, Scottsboro and other communities near the Tennessee border.
“I’m able to see what’s broken and, as a whole systems thinker and problem-solver, I’m the right person to go to Washington DC on behalf of my home, this district, and fix it,” he told AL.com in an interview earlier this year.
Opponent Candice Duvieilh, a government accounting expert and analyst whose husband is a disabled veteran, told the outlet she ran for office because families like hers “deserve representation that works for them.”
A third candidate, Jeremy DeVito, did not qualify for Tuesday’s Democratic runoff.
At the end of 2025, Strong released a report on his tenure during the most recent congressional year, stating that his office returned $7.2 million to Alabama constituents through casework and made 667 visits across the district to meet with voters. The report also noted that the district ranked fourth nationwide in the number of cadets accepted to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.
Strong won his first congressional race in 2022 after incumbent Rep. Morris “Mo” Brooks, R-Ala., retired to launch an unsuccessful Senate bid.

Trump Jr. praised Rick Jackson on eve of Georgia runoff despite father backing rival
Donald Trump Jr. praised Georgia Republican gubernatorial candidate Rick Jackson on the eve of Tuesday’s runoff, even as President Donald Trump has backed Jackson’s rival, Lt. Gov. Burt Jones.
“Regardless of what happens in the Georgia Governor’s race tomorrow, we should be celebrate the patriots building up MAGA and an America First economy like Rick Jackson has,” Trump Jr. wrote Monday night on X.
Trump Jr. pointed to Jackson’s involvement in efforts to shore up domestic amoxicillin manufacturing and invest in oil refining, saying Jackson “knows we can’t let China control our entire supply of anti-biotics” and stepped up when “woke banks” would not finance a new refinery.
“This has been a hard-fought race with a lot of mudslinging, but I know Rick Jackson to be a good man - and that counts for a lot,” he added.
Trump Jr. later clarified that his post was “not an endorsement of Rick,” adding that he thinks Jones is “a great guy too” and that “no matter who wins tomorrow, it’s a victory for MAGA.”
The post added a late twist to one of the country’s most expensive and closely watched GOP gubernatorial contests. Trump endorsed Jones in the race, while Jackson, a billionaire health care executive and political newcomer, has spent heavily to win over conservative voters.
Fox News Digital previously reported that Jackson donated $1 million to Trump’s political operation shortly before launching his campaign and has aggressively pitched himself as aligned with the president’s agenda. His business and nonprofit record, however, has also drawn scrutiny during the primary.
The winner will face Democratic nominee Keisha Lance Bottoms in November.

Collins wins Georgia GOP Senate runoff, draws immediate fire from top Democratic group
A chief Democratic super PAC was quick to react to GOP election runoff results on Tuesday evening, calling Rep. Mike Collins, R-Ga., an easy target.
“Mike Collins is an opposition researcher's dream. He treats Congress like a money-making scheme for his family business, an ethics-free zone, and a conspiracy theory clearinghouse - sometimes all in the same week,” Lauren French, a spokesperson for the Senate Majority PAC, told Fox News Digital.
Senate Majority PAC, a group founded in 2011, aims to elect Democrats to the U.S. Senate.
Collins, a two-term member of the House of Representatives, defeated Republican challenger Derek Dooley, a football coach and attorney, on Tuesday evening for a chance to challenge incumbent Senator Jon Ossoff, D-Ga.
“This unelectable nepo baby doesn’t have what it takes to beat Jon Ossoff,” French added.
Ossoff last won election in 50.6% to 49.4% victory over then-Senator David Perdue, R-Ga., in 2021.

Brecheen, Wade advance to general election in eastern Oklahoma congressional race
Republican U.S. Rep. Josh Brecheen and Democratic candidate Brandon Wade have won their parties' nominations in Oklahoma’s 2nd Congressional District, setting up a November showdown in a district that has long been considered a Republican stronghold.
Brecheen, a fourth-generation rancher and member of the Choctaw Nation, has represented Oklahoma's 2nd Congressional District since first being elected to Congress in 2022. Prior to serving in the U.S. House, he represented southeastern Oklahoma in the state Senate from 2010 to 2018.
Wade, a labor leader, won the Democratic nomination after campaigning on issues affecting working families and rural communities. He serves as a committee chairman and vice president of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 351. Throughout the campaign, Wade highlighted support for veterans, protecting Social Security and Medicare, expanding economic opportunities and strengthening tribal sovereignty.
Oklahoma's 2nd Congressional District covers a large portion of eastern Oklahoma, including many rural communities and tribal nations. The district has consistently favored Republican candidates in recent election cycles.

DC investigates potential misuse of government vehicle in mayoral campaign
The D.C. Department of Public Works announced that it is investigating reports that a public vehicle may have been misused for political purposes on Election Day.
“We are aware of concerns about the misuse of a D.C. government vehicle today,” the municipal agency posted on X. “We are investigating and the employee is on administrative leave. The misuse of government resources for campaign purposes will not be tolerated.”
A journalist at NOTUS reported that the agency’s announcement was in reference to a photo shared by the chairman of Janeese Lewis George’s mayoral campaign that appeared to show an individual in a D.C. government vehicle delivering tables outside a polling station to volunteers for Kenyan McDuffie, another mayoral candidate.
McDuffie is a moderate Democrat who has made addressing crime in the district a focal point of his campaign, while George is a democratic socialist who has been compared to progressive mayors such as Chicago’s Brandon Johnson and New York City’s Zohran Mamdani.

NRSC shifts focus to November, touting Collins victory in Georgia
The Republican National Senatorial Committee (NRSC) reacted to the Tuesday night Senate runoff victory of Rep. Mike Collins in Georgia with a post on social media.
“Onward to November with @MikeCollinsGA!” The NRSC posted on X. “It’s time to send a Georgia First patriot to the Senate.”
Collins, who is running as a MAGA champion and strong supporter of President Donald Trump, won a competitive and combustible battle for the GOP Senate nomination in Georgia that went into overtime.
The Trump-backed Collins on Tuesday defeated former college football coach Derek Dooley in the Republican runoff election, the Associated Press reports, and will face Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff in November's election in a race that's among a handful that will likely decide if the GOP holds its slim majority in the chamber in this autumn's midterm elections.
NRSC Chair Sen. Tim Scott elaborated on X, saying, "Jon Ossoff's political ambitions will come to a screeching halt this November. Georgians are done with his agenda of open borders, higher taxes, and left-wing partisanship. Georgia is now uniting behind Mike Collins, because he fights for the future of the Peach State."

Collins says Trump’s stamp proves he has the playbook to win Senate race
Rep. Mike Collins, R-Ga., told Fox News Digital that it is an “honor” to have President Donald Trump’s endorsement and that the nod did not come too late to make a difference.
“It just shows that he has confidence that we know how to win this race. We know we're in the lead in this thing, and he knows that I will represent the state of Georgia and the values that the people of the state have,” he said.
“[Trump] has this impeccable ability of putting his thumb right on the scale at the right time with whatever he wants to do.”
With Gov. Brian Kemp endorsing opponent Derek Dooley, Collins dismissed a question about whether his primary is a proxy between the governor and Trump – who have long had an icy relationship going back to allegations surrounding the handling of the 2020 election in the Peach State.
“I've often said that I didn't win the primary night by being propped up by anybody. This race is [between] me and Derek Dooley. And that's what people are looking at, what we stand for, and just what our stance is on the issues. And there are differences. There's a lot of differences.”

Trump-backed 'McCongressman' wins Oklahoma Senate primary, vows push for stalled SAVE Act
Deep in Trump country, a Republican vying for a seat in the Senate is wondering why his possible future colleagues can’t pass a key voter ID and citizenship verification bill.
Rep. Kevin Hern, R-Okla., cruised to a primary victory Tuesday night in the Sooner State, where he told Fox News Digital in an interview that the one thing he hears from voters constantly is whether Congress will pass the Safeguarding American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) America Act.
"They're saying we need to work on, you know, the SAVE Act," Hern said ahead of primary Election Day. "I mean, this is time and time again."
But the legislation has been stuck in the Senate, where all Democrats have vowed to block it. A cohort of Republicans have voted against the bill in various forms, too.
"This is something I'm not real sure why Republican senators are not supporting," Hern said. "I understand why Democrats don't support it. They don't support anything that protects America."
Since jumping into the race earlier this year, Hern has amassed a bevy of endorsements from senators and President Donald Trump, who lauded the lawmaker as being "strongly supported by the fiercest MAGA Warriors in Oklahoma, and the most Highly Respected Leaders in the United States Senate!"
And Hern knows that Oklahoma is Trump country, noting that voters there "love the president. They love the fact that I support the president and I work with the president."
Hern likely won’t face strong headwinds in November against one of a half dozen Democratic candidates seeking the nomination in the Sooner State, given that Trump has won the state — and all 77 of its counties — three times.

Ceretta Smith secures Democratic nomination in Georgia's 12th District
Ceretta Smith has won the Democratic primary runoff in Georgia's 12th Congressional District, securing her party's nomination for November's general election. Smith, a Grovetown, Georgia, council member and former Army medic, defeated Traci George in Tuesday's runoff after neither candidate won a majority in the initial primary election.
The victory caps a monthslong campaign focused on issues including economic opportunity, health care and community development across east-central Georgia. With the nomination secured, Smith will now turn her attention to Republican Rep. Rick Allen, who has represented the district since 2015 and is seeking another term in Congress.
Georgia's 12th District includes Augusta and surrounding communities in the eastern part of the state. The district has leaned Republican in recent election cycles, setting up a challenging general election contest for Democrats as they seek to flip the seat in November.

Dems choose nominee as party pushes for longshot gubernatorial win in deep-red state
Oklahoma House Minority Leader Cyndi Munson won the Democratic primary for governor Tuesday, advancing in the race to replace term-limited Republican Gov. Kevin Stitt in a state where Democrats face a steep climb in November.
Munson defeated a Democratic field that included former state Sen. Connie Johnson and financial professional Arya Azma, who appeared on the ballot under just his first name name.
Munson entered the race as the Democratic leader in the Oklahoma House, while Johnson brought a long history in state politics after serving in the Oklahoma Senate and running for governor in previous cycles. Arya, a securities trader who ran previously for the U.S. Senate in 2022, rounded out the Democratic field.
In Oklahoma, primary candidates must win a majority of the vote to secure the nomination outright and avoid a runoff.
Munson will move on to the November general election in a state that has become one of the GOP’s most reliable strongholds. Oklahoma has not elected a Democratic governor since 2006, and Stitt won re-election in 2022 by double digits before being barred by term limits from seeking a third term.

Reynolds and Fleming advance to November race for Georgia Secretary of State
Penny Brown Reynolds and Tim Fleming secured their parties’ nominations for Georgia secretary of state on Tuesday night, setting up a November showdown for the statewide office.
Reynolds won the Democratic runoff, defeating Dana Barrett, while Fleming claimed the Republican nomination.
The race will determine who succeeds Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, whose office oversees statewide elections, manages business registrations and maintains a variety of official state records. The position has drawn increased attention in recent years as Georgia has become one of the nation’s most closely watched political battlegrounds.
Reynolds is seeking to become Georgia’s first Democratic secretary of state in more than two decades. The last Democrat to hold the office was Cathy Cox, who was elected in 1998 and left the position in 2006 to run for governor.
The winner will help oversee Georgia's 2028 elections, which are expected to be conducted using newly redrawn legislative and congressional district maps.

D.C. police union issues ominous warning to city ahead of mayoral election
The union representing D.C.’s Metropolitan Police Department appeared to signal which mayoral candidate it's backing in a social media post Thursday afternoon.
“DC voters have a choice to make today,” the union wrote to its more than 10,000 followers.
Attached to the police union’s message were two screenshots.
One showed a social media post from Janeese Lewis George, the Democratic Socialists of America-endorsed candidate for mayor, in which she promised to “divest from MPD and put that money into violence interruption programs.”
The other showed a clip from the city’s mayoral debate, where Kenyan McDuffie, a moderate Democrat running for mayor, promised to hire 1,000 additional police officers in the district.
“In the world of DSA politics, criminals are always exalted to the highest level of society, while victims and innocent citizens are scolded and chastised for even reporting that a crime took place,” the union wrote May 29, reacting to a report that George had voted against a bill that would have allowed landlords to evict violent individuals to protect other tenants.

Mike Collins wins GOP Senate nod in Georgia
Republican Rep. Mike Collins, who secured President Donald Trump’s endorsement late in the race, has won the GOP’s Senate nomination in Georgia.
Collins defeated former college football coach Derek Dooley in the Republican runoff election, the Associated Press reports. Collins advances to face Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff, viewed by Republicans as one of the party’s best opportunities for a flip in 2026.
Ossoff, however, has a massive campaign warchest to defend himself with. Georgia’s Senate race is one of a handful that will decide control of Congress’ upper chamber in 2027.
Collins, a two-term federal lawmaker representing a stretch of land between Atlanta and Augusta, is the son of the late Rep. Mac Collins, and is the founder and co-owner, along with his wife, of a trucking company.
Dooley, meanwhile, is a former college football coach who received vigorous support for Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, a popular, but term-limited, Republican. Kemp and his wife regularly appeared with Dooley on the campaign trail and Kemp’s top political advisor served as a senior consultant for Dooley's Senate bid.

Democratic socialist DC mayoral candidate claims most individual donations in city's history
Janeese Lewis George, a self-proclaimed Democratic Socialist candidate for mayor in Washington, D.C., is claiming that her campaign has received the most individual donations of any candidate in the city’s history.
Amid her bid to replace outgoing Mayor Muriel Bowser in a Democratic primary election that’s garnered national attention, Lewis George said her donations are evidence of widespread support.
“The campaign has now received financial contributions from 6,542 District residents as of the June 10 report, nearly 3,000 more than the previous record set by former Mayor Adrian Fenty,” Lewis George said in a post to her campaign website.
Lewis George has raised $3.83 million, according to her campaign.
Among other key policy positions, Lewis George is advocating for childcare for all, rent stabilization policies and free bus fare for D.C. residents enrolled in SNAP food assistance programs.
The city’s mayor, Bowser, announced she would not pursue a fourth term late last year, saying it was time to “pass the baton.”
If she makes it past Tuesday’s election, Lewis George will head to the general election on Nov. 3.

Political outsider wins GOP primary in deep-red Trump stronghold
Neurosurgeon John Cowan defeated GOP challenger Rob Adkerson Tuesday in Georgia’s 11th Congressional District race.
Cowan ran his campaign as a political outsider looking to bring private-sector and medical experience to Congress advocating for healthcare reform and term limits.
The district had been led by Republican Rep. Barry Loudermilk, who announced he will not seek reelection in order to spend more time with his family in retirement.
Adkerson, who served as chief of staff to Loudermilk, received his endorsement after the congressman's announcement.
Adkerson campaigned on continuing Loudermilk’s agenda to hold government accountable, cut federal spending, and protect the border.
The suburban district has long been a Republican stronghold, with President Donald Trump carrying it in the 2016, 2020, and 2024 presidential elections.
Cowan will face off against Cherokee County democratic candidate Chris Harden in November.

Former Navy pilot to challenge Republican in red Georgia district
Lawyer and former Navy pilot Tony Kozycki has won the Democratic primary run-off election in Georgia’s 7th congressional district, teeing him up to run against incumbent Rep. Rich McCormick in the solidly red constituency.
Kozycki defeated union camera technician Case Norton, who was endorsed by a number of progressive groups. Both Democratic candidates sought to portray themselves as moderates willing to work across the aisle while on the campaign trail.
A Democratic pick-up in the district is unlikely given that McCormick won reelection by nearly 30 points in 2024.
McCormick sits on the Armed Services Committee, the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and the Committee on Science, Space and Technology. The Georgia congressman made national headlines in 2024 when he divorced his wife of seven years, with whom he shared seven children, after it was reported that he was engaged in an affair with Rep. Beth Van Duyne, a Texas Republican.
Kozycki has accused McCormick of being inaccessible to constituents, failing to serve veterans and not delivering on promised reforms to healthcare.

Polls close in DC, Alabama and Oklahoma
Polls closed in Washington, D.C., Alabama and Oklahoma at 8 p.m. ET.
Oklahoma is holding a crowded GOP primary for governor, spurred by incumbent Gov. Kevin Stitt being term-limited. Major candidates include state Attorney General Gentner Drummond, former state legislator Mike Mazzei, who won President Donald Trump’s endorsement, former Oklahoma House Speaker Charles McCall and businessman Chip Keating.
Voters in the Sooner State are also choosing a Republican nominee for Senate after Markwayne Mullin vacated his seat to lead the Department of Homeland Security. Rep. Kevin Hern is Trump’s pick to succeed Mullin.
In Alabama, meanwhile, voters are choosing between Rep. Barry Moore and former Navy SEAL Jared Hudson in the state’s GOP Senate primary. Incumbent Sen. Tommy Tuberville is running for governor instead of seeking re-election.
Both Alabama and Oklahoma are deeply Republican states, meaning whoever secures the GOP nomination is likely to ultimately win office. The opposite is true in D.C.
The headline race in the nation’s capital is the Democratic mayoral primary.
Janeese Lewis George, a democratic socialist who has drawn frequent comparisons to New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, is locked in a heated contest against Kenyan McDuffie, a more moderate Democrat who has made addressing crime a focal point of his campaign.

Ossoff campaign mocks both potential GOP challengers heading into Tuesday night's election
Days before polls closed in Georgia on Tuesday, Democrat Sen.Jon Ossoff's campaign took a shot at the two Republicans vying for the chance to face off against him in November.
“After nearly a year-long brutally messy audition to win over the White House, Trump puppets Mike Collins and Derek Dooley have made themselves both unelectable and terminally inseparable from the toxic president," Ossoff Campaign Communications Director Ellie Dougherty said in a statement on Sunday.
“The juggernaut Ossoff campaign continues to build incredible momentum to decisively defeat either pro-war, pro-tariff, and pro-cutting health care candidate in November.”
Dooley, endorsed by Republican Gov. Brian Kemp, and Collins, endorsed by President Trump, are squaring off in a run-off election on Tuesday that will determine who faces off against Ossoff as well as how strong Trump's endorsement is in the Peach State.
The runoff follows a competitive Republican primary that also included Rep. Buddy Carter, R-Ga. The race has drawn national attention as Republicans seek to flip a Senate seat in a battleground state that Trump carried in 2024.

DC mayoral candidate brushes off Trump's federalization warning
Washington, D.C., mayoral candidate Kenyan McDuffie pushed back on President Donald Trump's suggestion that the federal government could take greater control of the city depending on the outcome of the city's mayoral race.
McDuffie, who is facing a primary race on Tuesday, told reporters that Trump does not get to decide who leads the District."Well, first of all, we're going to win," McDuffie said. "Number one, secondly, and importantly, Donald Trump does not get to decide who the next mayor of Washington, D.C. is going to be. DC voters get to decide that."
Trump has repeatedly criticized D.C.'s leadership and has suggested the federal government should take a larger role in running the city, arguing it has been poorly managed. He took particular aim at McDuffie's opponent Janeese Lewis George, who is a self-described "Democratic socialist"
"Regardless of what the president wants, I don't know about his political strategy. I'm not even thinking about his political strategy," McDuffie said. "This election is not about President Trump."
"This is about the next generation of Washington, D.C.," McDuffie continued. "What does it look like to build a city where the people who've been here for a while can afford to stay?"

Georgia GOP Senate primary heads to runoff as Republicans battle to unseat Ossoff
Georgia Republicans will choose their nominee to challenge Sen. Jon Ossoff, D-Ga., in November after Rep. Mike Collins and former University of Tennessee football coach Derek Dooley advanced to a June 16 runoff election.
The runoff follows a competitive Republican primary that also included Rep. Buddy Carter, R-Ga. The race has drawn national attention as Republicans seek to flip a Senate seat in a battleground state that President Donald Trump carried in 2024. Trump has endorsed Collins.
Dooley has campaigned as a political outsider, pledging to support policies such as term limits, a ban on congressional stock trading and efforts to avoid government shutdowns. Collins, meanwhile, has highlighted his conservative record and alignment with Trump’s agenda as he seeks the GOP nomination.
Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp has endorsed Dooley, describing him as the right candidate to help Republicans reclaim the Senate seat. The runoff could also become a proxy battle between Kemp and Trump, who have frequently clashed since the 2020 election.
Ossoff has dismissed the Republican primary battle, saying it doesn't matter which opponent they face in November. His campaign argued that either GOP nominee would emerge politically weakened, while Democrats are optimistic about their chances of holding the seat.

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp endorses his Lt Gov in GOP primary race to succeed him
Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp jumped into the Republican race to succeed him in its final stretch, endorsing Lt. Gov. Burt Jones just days before Tuesday’s runoff against billionaire businessman Rick Jackson.
The late endorsement put Kemp and President Donald Trump on the same side in the high-stakes GOP governor’s race, giving Jones the backing of both Georgia’s outgoing Republican governor and the party’s national standard-bearer as voters decide who will face Democratic nominee Keisha Lance Bottoms in November.
Kemp and Trump are aligned behind Jones in the governor’s race, even as they split in the state’s Senate runoff, where Trump backed Rep. Mike Collins, R-Ga., and Kemp backed former football coach Derek Dooley.
Jackson, a wealthy health care executive and political newcomer, has flooded the race with his own money and turned what initially looked like a more conventional GOP contest into a bruising runoff. His massive ad campaign helped him advance past Republicans with greater political name-recognition in the first round, setting up a final matchup with Jones, who led the May primary but fell short of the majority needed to avoid a runoff.
The governor’s race has become one of Georgia’s top tests of Republican power heading into November. Jones is running as a Trump-backed conservative with statewide experience, while Jackson has pitched himself as an outsider businessman, even though he vied heavily for Trump's support in the early days of his campaign.

Right-hand woman of Democratic socialist seeking to run DC praised Luigi Mangione
Janeese Lewis George, a Democratic socialist and the frontrunner to become DC’s next mayor, employs a woman who has called for accused assassin Luigi Mangione to be pardoned and freed as her political director.
"#FreeLuigi and pardon the youth!" Makia Green, George’s political director, wrote on social media in December 2024.
Green also founded Harriet’s Wildest Dreams, a nonprofit organization advocating for the abolition of prisons.
George has drawn comparisons in the press to New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani, another democratic socialist. Mamdani, however, has not formally endorsed George.
She has, however, won the endorsement of the Democratic Socialists of America, a group that has been criticized for not condemning Mangione.
Mangione is accused of stalking United Healthcare executive Brian Thompson, then fatally shooting him in the back outside of a New York City hotel.
George is locked in a heated Democratic primary contest against Kenyan McDuffie, who has advocated taking a tougher stance on crime in the district.

Polls close in Georgia as voters decide key Republican runoffs
Polls have closed across Georgia, bringing Election Day to an end in one of the nation's most closely watched battleground states. Election officials are now beginning the process of counting ballots as voters await results in several high-profile primary contests.
Among the races drawing the most attention is the Republican primary for Georgia's U.S. Senate seat, where President Donald Trump has thrown his support behind U.S. Rep. Mike Collins, R-Ga. Gov. Brian Kemp is backing former football coach Derek Dooley. Whoever wins in the run-off election will go on to face Sen. Jon Ossoff, D-Ga., in the general election this November.
But Trump and Kemp are both united in their support for Lt. Gov. Burt Jones in the state's governor race. He is facing off against Rick Jackson, a billionaire businessman, for the party's nomination in the state's run-off election.
Besides the Republican runoffs for governor and U.S. Senate, Georgia voters are also deciding several other statewide nominations in the June runoff election, including races for lieutenant governor, secretary of state, labor commissioner, insurance commissioner, state school superintendent, and Public Service Commission District 5.

GOP to run against Dem who expressed sympathy for ‘defund the police’ in Georgia governor race
Former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, in a June 2020 interview, expressed sympathy for the “defund the police” movement, touting her efforts to cut funding for city jails to fund community wellness programs.
Bottoms won the Democratic nomination for Georgia governor in May.
“A very simplified message is ‘defund the police,’ but I think the overarching theme is that people want to see a reallocation of resources into community development and alternatives to just criminalizing responses to behavior,” Bottoms said during the interview. “It’s incumbent upon us to help people articulate that frustration.”
Bottoms went on to discuss how she cut the city’s corrections budget from a proposed $19 million to just $4 million. Turning Atlanta’s city jail into a community center was one action Bottoms took in that vein.
Atlanta, and much of the United States, saw a considerable uptick in violent crime during the COVID-19 pandemic, which overlapped with Bottoms’ time in office.
While Bottoms oversaw the slashing of Atlanta’s correctional budget, she approved a $14 million increase to the city’s police budget as crime spiked in 2020. Despite this, Atlanta police officers resigned in large numbers during her mayoral tenure.

More than 500K votes cast as Trump-Kemp showdown heads toward Georgia runoff finish
The Georgia Secretary of State's office has counted roughly 520,000 votes already cast as registered residents in the Peach State decide a series of high-profile runoff elections on Tuesday afternoon, Fox News Digital learned.
The count coincides with what state election officials are expecting to see.
The Secretary of State estimates that a total of 1.2 to 1.3 million voters will participate in runoffs that include the state’s gubernatorial and Senate primaries — both on the Republican side of the aisle.
In the Senate primary, Rep. Mike Collins, R-Ga., who has Trump’s endorsement, faces off against challenger Derek Dooley, a former football coach who has the backing of Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp.
For the gubernatorial race, Burt Jones, the state’s current lieutenant governor, is running against Rick Jackson, a billionaire businessman who is largely self-funding his campaign.
Because the most high-profile runoffs involve Republican candidates, officials expect to see 70% Republican and 30% Democratic participation on Tuesday.
Polls in Georgia will close at 7:00 p.m.

Democrats battle to replace Swalwell in California special election after misconduct scandal
California already held its primaries earlier this month, but a special election to fill California’s 14th Congressional district is underway on Tuesday after Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., resigned earlier this year.
The seat, a heavily Democratic-leaning district, is expected to add to the ranks of Democrats in the House of Representatives, where Republicans hold a slim majority.
The race has attracted a slew of candidates.
Among them, State Senator Aisha Wahab, former mayor Melissa Hernandez, attorney Rakhi Israni Singh and business administrator Alisha Cordes are vying for the Democratic nomination.
On the Republican side of the aisle, real estate investor Wendy Huang and small business owner Dena Maldonado are among the candidates hoping for a chance to flip the seat.
The top two candidates will advance to a general election scheduled for August 18.
Swalwell, who resigned on April 13 after accounts of sexual misconduct and abuse surfaced earlier this year, last won the district in a 67.8% to 32.2% victory over Republican challenger Vin Kruttiventi in 2024.

Runoff Election Day turnout in Georgia is likely to be low, due to a number of contributing factors
Georgians traditionally vote in primaries in May, and in the general election in the autumn. June runoffs are less frequent.
“People are not necessarily tuned in,” University of Geogia political science professor Trey Hood told Fox News Digital.
Also likely to put a damper on turnout is the weather. Much of central and southern Georgia were experiencing heavy rain and in some cases thunderstorms on Tuesday.
Hood said that people who didn’t vote early in the runoff and waited until Election Day to cast a ballot may be dissuaded by the wet and rough weather.
Turnout was low in the early voting period. About 480,000 Georgians cast ballots during early voting statewide, out of roughly 7.3 million registered voters, according to state election data.

Trump floats game plan if 'crazy socialist' mayoral candidate wins
President Donald Trump suggested that he'd order another federal takeover of Washington D.C. if the "crazy socialist” mayoral candidate was elected.
“I wouldn’t like it — and maybe we take back Washington, run it on the federal basis,” Trump said when asked by reporters how'd he respond if self-described Democratic Socialist D.C. Council member Janeese Lewis George were to win her bid.
“We won’t put up with it. We’re not going to lose our businesses," Trump said on Thursday during a press briefing from the Oval Office.
George, who has become the Democratic frontrunner is facing off against former D.C. Council member-at-large Kenyan McDuffie (D) on Tuesday's Democrat primary election in D.C. The race will likely decide the winner of the general race in a city where roughly 75% of voters are registered Democrat.
Last August, Trump federalized the city's police force and sent hundreds of National Guard members to the state. Although at first Mayor Muriel Browser pushed back on Trump's federalization of the D.C. police force; she soon worked with the White House in its crime crack down.
But, George called Trump's recent threat to enact a second takeover as an attack on democracy itself."

Court orders Cobb County polling location to stay open late after morning delay
Voters at a Cobb County, Georgia, precinct will have extra time to cast their ballots in Tuesday's general primary runoff election after a setup issue delayed the site's opening.
The Elizabeth 03 precinct, located at the Piedmont Road Church of Christ in Marietta, experienced a 16-minute delay during morning setup and officially opened at 7:16 a.m. local time, according to a statement from Cobb County Elections & Registration and a resulting court order.
Following a petition by the Cobb County Board of Elections and Registration, Superior Court Judge Kimberly Childs issued an order granting a writ to keep the polling location open until 7:16 p.m.
The court order ensures any voter who may have been turned away or delayed by the late opening still has the full voting period available to cast their ballot for Tuesday's runoff.
Election officials clarified the extended deadline only applies to eligible voters specifically assigned to the Elizabeth 03 precinct who have not yet cast a ballot at the location.

Atlanta mayor, Fulton County DA Fani Willis endorse Mo Ivory for commission chair
High-profile Fulton County, Georgia, leaders — including District Attorney Fani Willis and Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens — rallied Tuesday morning to endorse Mo Ivory for Fulton County Commission chair, calling for an urgent change in administration.
During an endorsement event Tuesday morning, Willis launched a blistering critique of current Chair Rob Pitts, claiming he has "worked against us the entire time" she has been in office and accusing him of acting in his "own self-interest" rather than serving the public.
"He is not a real Democrat, we might as well say it," Willis said.
Dickens praised Ivory, who has previously served as a Fulton County commissioner, lawyer and college professor, adding he already cast his ballot in her favor.
"Mo Ivory gets it and she's been on the battlefield," Dickens said. "She's battle tested and she is ready right now."
Fulton County Sheriff Patrick Labat highlighted Ivory's hands-on approach, noting she has toured the county jail more than any other commissioner during his tenure, while ripping into the current board for speaking "out of both sides of their mouth" and delivering "empty promises" regarding public safety.
Ivory said the morning's show of support reaffirmed Fulton County is "ready to move boldly into the future."
"Together, we are committed to building stronger partnerships across government, not sitting on opposite sides of the table, but working side by side to solve the challenges facing our communities," Ivory said. "... The time for new leadership is now, and that change begins today."

Immigrant explains vote for Collins in Georgia GOP runoff: 'Just follow the law'
Retired software engineer James Haddad, a 66-year-old Jordan national who legally immigrated to the U.S. in 1983, told The Associated Press his vote in the Georgia GOP Senate runoff was going to Rep. Mike Collins because of his stance on immigration.
“I’m an immigrant, but I’m a legal immigrant,” Haddad told the outlet. “Just follow the law. ... It’s unfortunate that some immigrants have ruined it for others."
Collins sponsored the 2025 Laken Riley Act, which opposes bond for immigrants charged with certain crimes, while Ossoff voted against the initial version.
Ossoff later supported the legislation after President Donald Trump's reelection.
"The congressman is a good American who puts America first," Haddad said.

Rep. Clay Fuller, R-Georgia, on Tuesday issued a rallying cry to voters in his "mighty 14th" district, urging them to head to the polls and cast their ballots for a slate of America first candidates.

He also emphasized that Jones has been "tirelessly fighting" for Trump's initiatives in the state.
For the U.S. Senate, Fuller threw his weight behind Mike Collins, crediting him with a major legislative victory on border security and crime.
He noted Collins was "the single individual who got the Laken Riley Act across the finish line."

Trump-backed Republican scores union endorsement in race to unseat NY Democrat
A Republican challenging a vulnerable Democratic incumbent in one of the nation's most competitive House races is touting a key labor endorsement.
Mike LiPetri, a former state assembly member backed by President Donald Trump, said support from the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 138 reflects growing momentum behind his campaign. "I think you'll see [more unions] fall in line with us knowing that we stand with the men and women who work hard to build our country," LiPetri told Fox News Digital in an interview.
The endorsement from the 1,500-member union gives LiPetri a boost as he prepares for a rematch contest against Rep. Tom Suozzi, D-N.Y., who won back the suburban swing seat in 2024 after representing it from 2017 to 2023.
Local 138 Business Manager John Duffy praised LiPetri's candidacy in a statement to Fox News Digital.
"We need leaders in Washington with guts — people who aren’t afraid to roll up their sleeves to get the job done, no excuses," Duffy said. "Mike LiPetri is that guy and the men and women of Local 138 are with him all the way."

Senate hopeful offers Christian message as the 'one thing' he wants people to take from his campaign
Former Navy SEAL Jared Hudson, the candidate facing off against President Donald Trump-backed Rep. Barry Moore in the Alabama Republican U.S. Senate primary runoff contest on Tuesday, shared the "one thing" that he hopes that people will take away from his campaign.
"If there’s one thing you take away from everything I’ve said on this campaign trail, I pray it’s this: Our Father in Heaven loves you so much that He sent His only Son to die on a cursed tree. To conquer sin and death for you. Jesus is the ultimate warrior. He has won the ultimate battle," Hudson wrote in a post on X.
"No matter what happens today, Jesus wins. And He did it for you," he added.

Trump-endorsed congressman faces off with former Navy SEAL in Alabama GOP US Senate primary runoff
In Alabama, President Donald Trump is supporting Rep. Barry Moore, who is facing off with former Navy SEAL sniper Jared Hudson in the GOP Senate runoff, in the race to succeed Republican Sen. Tommy Tuberville, who is running for governor this year rather than seeking re-election.
Moore, who founded a waste hauling company and later served as a state lawmaker before first winning election to the U.S. House in 2020, and was one of the first politicians to endorse Trump in 2015 when the president first ran for the White House, is also endorsed by Vice President JD Vance and Senate Majority Leader Sen. John Thune.
Moore, who represents Alabama's 1st Congressional District, in the southern portion of the state, is a member of the ultra-conservative House Freedom Caucus.
Hudson, running as an outsider, edged out state Attorney General Steve Marshall to advance to the runoff with Moore.
Besides being a combat veteran, Hudson has served as a sheriff’s deputy, firefighter, small business owner and current head of a nonprofit that trains law enforcement in taking out human traffickers.
Hudson was endorsed by then-Sen. Markwayne Mullin, who is now Trump's Department of Homeland Security secretary, as well as Sen. Tim Sheehy, the National Association for Gun Rights PAC, and conservative activist and media star Riley Gaines.
Moore or Hudson will be considered the clear front-runner in November against the winner of the Democratic runoff between small business owner Dakarai Larriett and attorney and former judge Everett Wess.

Why Cruz is breaking with Trump in Georgia and South Carolina GOP gubernatorial runoff elections
The power of a President Donald Trump endorsement is also facing a key test in Georgia's gubernatorial nomination runoff, where Trump last year backed Lt. Gov. Burt Jones in the race to succeed the term-limited Kemp. Jones is battling billionaire businessman Rick Jackson, who has dished out over $100 million of his own money on his campaign, in the runoff.
Kemp made a last-minute endorsement on Sunday, backing Jones. And at an event Monday morning, Kemp explained that his mission is "to make sure that we have the best folks at the top of the ticket that can win in November and you know that's why I'm supporting Burt Jones for governor."
Jackson also landed a last-minute endorsement, as conservative firebrand Sen. Ted Cruz backed Jackson on Friday and joined him on the campaign trail for a runoff eve rally.
"Rick has an extraordinary record, an extraordinary life story. And I also think he's positioned to win. And the stakes are too high. This election is a battleground all across the country. We can't afford to lose Georgia," Cruz told Fox News.
When Cruz endorsed Jackson on Friday, he also supported South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson, who is facing off in a week against Trump-backed Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette in the South Carolina GOP gubernatorial primary runoff.
Asked if he's trying to put some daylight between himself and the president on the campaign trail, Cruz quickly responded, "No. Not remotely....The president and I agree on the vast majority of races. What I try to do in every race is endorse the strongest conservative who can win. And typically I get in races late in the race at a time where my support might be able to make a difference and be helpful."
Jones, on the eve of the Cruz visit, took aim at Jackson.
"He keeps on bringing in these out-of-state senators, and I would much rather have the president's endorsement," he said. "He's having to go out of state to get his support. We're keeping all our stuff in state."

Trump's endorsement power faces crucial tests in closely watched Georgia and Alabama GOP runoffs
While he isn't on the ballot, President Donald Trump's immense clout over the GOP faces more key tests on Tuesday in high-stakes Republican runoffs in Georgia and Alabama.
Trump-endorsed candidates are fighting in competitive showdowns against Republican rivals for the GOP gubernatorial and Senate nominations in battleground Georgia and for the Senate in solidly red Alabama.
Tuesday's contests in Georgia and Alabama come as Oklahoma and the District of Columbia hold primary elections, and voters in California's 14th Congressional District will vote in a special election to narrow the field of nearly a dozen candidates hoping to fill the seat left vacant when scandal-plagued Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell resigned.
But the biggest spotlight is on Georgia, where Trump made an 11th-hour endorsement this past weekend in the Senate race in Georgia, which is one of a handful of midterm election contests across the country that will decide if the GOP holds its slim majority in the chamber.
Trump endorsed Republican Rep. Mike Collins, a MAGA champion and strong supporter of the president, who is facing off against former college football coach Derek Dooley, who has the support of popular conservative Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp.
"It's an honor to have that endorsement. It just shows that he has confidence that we know how to win this race, we know we're in the lead in this thing," Collins told Fox News Digital on Sunday, hours after landing Trump's endorsement.
Asked if Trump's endorsement in Georgia came too late to make a difference, Collins said, "I don't think President Trump ever is too late. He has this impeccable ability of putting his thumb right on the scale at the right time with whatever he wants to do."
