Sony will often update its social media accounts to reflect the current game it’s marketing, but I’ve never seen this before: it’s added a custom start-up animation to the PS5, which takes you to the GTA 6 pre-order.
The game’s logo appears in the Welcome Hub widget when you load your console, with a link to its product page.
Meanwhile, the PS Store has been completely overtaken by the title, with various links to trailers and, of course, that all-important pre-order page.
Elsewhere, the platform holder’s just pushed out an update for the PS App on iOS and (in some regions) Android which rebrands the icon in GTA 6 colours.
The app itself is identical once you boot it, but you’ll see the now iconic orange and blue hue behind the PlayStation symbol on your phone home screen, alongside silhouettes of Leonida’s pristine palm trees.
This is all part of a concerted marketing effort, which has seen the Japanese giant declare PS5 as the “best place to play” Rockstar’s new open world release. Expect the two companies to work in tandem through release day and beyond to truly transform this launch into an event.
I really love the colour palette of GTA 6 overall, so I reckon this new PS App icon is an upgrade on the traditional blue one. It hasn’t rolled out the new colour scheme on its other social media accounts just yet, but I’d expect that to happen in due course.
