Robinhood Event Contracts: Not Eligible? What to Check
On this page

An event-contract access problem can concern account approval, location, a specific category, or buying power. Record the exact message before deciding which applies. Robinhood’s current event-contract overview is the source for its requirements. Reviewed November 8, 2026.

Check account approval first

Robinhood lists age 18 or older, US residency, an individual brokerage account and approval for a Robinhood Derivatives account. Meeting basic requirements does not itself establish approval.

Make a short diagnostic note: which account is selected, whether an application was submitted, what status appears, and whether the error applies to every contract or only one category. Avoid repeating applications before reading the message.

Check category and location restrictions

The overview lists sports restrictions for Maryland, Michigan and Nevada. From November 2, 2026, it also lists restrictions on new sports contracts in Ohio and new sports, culture, elections and politics contracts in Utah. Additional restrictions can apply; check the current app and official overview.

A category-specific restriction differs from a general account rejection. Compare like with like when describing the problem to support: name the category and whether you are trying to open a position or close an existing one. Do not change or misrepresent location information to bypass a restriction.

Check for a reapplication wait

Robinhood says repeated unsuccessful applications, or disabling and re-enabling event trading, can trigger a 30-day waiting period. That is a possible condition, not a diagnosis of your account.

Separate access from buying power

The overview says event-contract buying power uses settled cash and instant deposits are unavailable for these contracts. A funding problem does not necessarily mean your account is ineligible.

Write down the quoted order cost, displayed buying power, deposit status and error text. Do not assume that an account’s total portfolio value equals spendable cash. Our Robinhood payout guide covers related balance questions.

Contact support through the official app for an account-specific explanation. Keep account identifiers and documents out of public community posts. Alphascope cannot inspect or approve a Robinhood account.

Research before choosing another contract

Access does not establish that a contract is a good trade. Read the resolution rules, compare the executable price with your independent probability estimate and include fees. Alphascope’s forecast research can help investigate a question; the venue determines access and execution.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why might Robinhood require a 30-day wait?▾

Its event-contract overview says repeated unsuccessful applications or disabling and re-enabling event trading may cause a 30-day reapplication waiting period. Check the message on your own account.
